Your health changes as you get older. 

These changes can happen earlier for people with intellectual disability. 

It is important to have health checks as you get older.  

Talk to your doctor about the health checks you need. 

People with intellectual disability should have a happy, healthy life as you get older. 

Like other older Australians, people with intellectual disability deserve to live a happy, healthy life.

For everyone, health changes as you age. 

Sometimes these changes can happen earlier in life for people with intellectual disability. 

Older people may need support to help with:

  • bone health
  • weeing or pooing when they don't mean to, which is sometimes called incontinence
  • hearing loss
  • hard thoughts and feelings, which is sometimes called mental health
  • aches and pains
  • heart health
  • staying active
  • eating healthy food.

It is important to have health checks as you get older. Talk to your about the health checks you need.
